Sin Lean Lee (Golden Char Kuey Teow) @ Old Town, Ipoh

Supposedly this 'Kam Char Fun' (Golden Fried Kuey Teow) stall is famous in Ipoh, though I haven't heard much of it before transferred here. The 1st time I tried this I was expecting a lot, after various disappointments comparing Ipoh Char Kuey Teow with Penang versions, which I adore a lot.

However, the price notwithstanding, (RM3.50 per plate with 2 prawns (small) and few cockles), the noodle is fried 'wet' style, too wet for my liking. And on weekends and public holidays, be prepared for a LONG wait, as most of the customers would order this dish. Why the 'golden' moniker? It is the strategically placed fried egg on top of the dish. Or probably the 'golden' price tag? Hmm ....

On most days, when I run out of ideas on what to eat, I would order glutinous rice with kaya (RM1.40). The kaya is homemade, delicious, may be a bit sweet, but the flavour is pretty enticing. Serving may be a bit small, but would be enough for a light breakfast. The glutinous rice is slightly sweet, not too sticky, and just perfect with the kaya. Yummy ....

Other options include chee cheong fun (OK only) which they serve with the usual condiments, and curry pork skin, yong tau foo stall that sells pretty good beef balls, prawn noodle, and some other stuff I have not even ordered before. ;)

Location? Hmm, tough one. It is a corner shop occupying 2 shoplots on Jalan Bandar Timah/Jalan Panglima, in Old Town area. It is opposite of Kong Heng Coffee Shop, though not directly. Anyone who needs further direction is welcomed to ask. Glad to be of help. :)

yeahla! nowadays pretty hard to find nice CKT in Ipoh la! compared to Pg ones, I think ours reli lacking. Sigh. The one in Woolley not bad, big portion, but tastewise not enough burnt(wokhei) taste.

seems like you are seeking cheap food instead of good quality food..too bad if it's like that...nowadays rm3.50 ain't a really huge amount for a plate of CKT,even the CKT in market are costing around rm3.20..so i think you better do some research in the prices before you upload a post that its unfair to the owner of the CKT stall...don't you know how to appreciate their hardwork?? btw,it's already their 4th generation running the stall and still counting....
