Here's a short post on a lazy Friday afternoon ..... Weekend's beckoning, timely as my whole body's on the verge of shutting down .... *_*
The gal was obviously ... surprised. Shocked. Or agitated ....
A friend recommended this place in Ipoh for the supposedly delicious curry noodles, beating Nam Chau's and Yee Fatt's hands down. WHAT?! For real?!!! (Note of bias here .... I'm a die-hard fan of Nam Chau's dry curry noodles. Sinfully rich, and bursting with curry goodness ....sigh .... =P)
Dry Curry Noodles with Deepfried Beancurd (Tau Fu Pok), Char Siew, Prawns and Cuttlefish
Being the curry noodles fan that I am, needless to say, I warped myself over in a jiffy. The shop's name is Kafe Tim (Cantonese pronunciation of Kopitiam, for those wondering), situated near to Tesco in Ipoh Garden East. In fact, it's a few shops away from
Yong He Taiwanese Snacks, and
SSTC Italian Cafe, so you know you have options in case your tummy's acting up and curry noodles seem a far-fetched idea.

My preference for dry curry noodles dated back to the days when I was introduced to the DRY version, possibly at Yee Fatt in Pasir Putih. (In case you're wondering what's "dry" curry, it's actually thick curry paste poured on top of noodles lightly tossed with soy sauce/dark soy sauce, resulting in a "Kon Lou" type of noodles, with a generally thicker taste of curry)
Kafe Tim's version of dry curry failed to impress, however. The curry wasn't rich enough for me, possibly holding back on the gravy, and the coconut milk used to cook the curry. Halfway through my plate of dry curry flat rice noodles (kuey teow), I was practically slurping on "Kon Lou Hor Fun", instead of "Kon Kari Hor Fun."
The soup version fared much better however, the curry exuded a very strong prawn flavour, possibly prawn shells were used in the stock. The curry's a bit spicier than the others I've mentioned. The addition of cuttlefish (yau yue) is a refreshing change, offering a springy bite as opposed to the usual roast pork (siew yoke), and chicken shreds.

Noticed a lot of other patrons indulging/slurping on their bowl of pork noodles, and chicken wine noodles. But my patience runs rather thin, especially on early mornings, as you know how long it takes for the bowl of pork noodles/fish head noodles/chicken wine noodles to be cooked, compared to a bowl of sinful curry mee. :)

Looks like far difference from those sold in Xin Quan Fang coffee shop. I really miss that curry mee.
Haven't tried Nam Chau yet. It was closed on the day I'd finally decided to go. What luck! As for this outlet, it does not 'look' impressive.
Will look for dry curry mee for dinner. So happy to be back in Ipoh where the trees are green, grass also green :)
Your curry mee devotion is awe-inspiring, LOL!! The version here somehow looks more fiery than usual... I feel a cough coming up just looking at it!

Dried curry mee is so different from the soupy version. I like both though. There is one stall in Penang selling dried curry mee which is quite good.
The curry broth is not thick enough.
Kafe Tim is actually named after the proprietor Timothy. He used to deal with events and sound systems. He decided to try the food business and thus opened up this restaurant. The curry mee looks quite ok lah but I prefer the stall at restaurant Tim Shun Loong, off Kampar Road. His curry mee really pack a punch.

550ml jar of faith : it's reddish, slightly spicier than the average, but not tongue-numbing, no worries.

i seldom crave for curry. my dad's favourite curry noodle is the padang one!
The stall in Penang is in BB cafe (a kopitiam), situated right behind Sunshine Square. They only open during lunch time. Do give it a try if you happen to visit again.
you should try their pan mee also it's awesome ! and not to mention the kopi ice :)
I regreted trying up thier dry curry. Real bad. It was lunch & I was in hurry for a haircut nearby.
There again for my breakfast. Howevere, its economy rice with version of curry dishes display is simply tempting. Boy..its real nice as I had rendang. Will try out its other dishes.
A stall that fried kuew Teaw churn out rather good Penang stlye version. Not bad.
Its juice drink cost only RM1.20.
Will go again to try out other dishes but curry mee.
although the pan mee nid wait a long time(over half n hour)...but i think tat is worth for it...the perfect match-''sambal''...i strongly recommend all of u to try...yummy...i very miss tat taste!
