Sinful piece of roasted duck, with thin, crisp skin, albeit slightly gamey flavour
OK, a very short post for the weekend. FRIDAY doesn't come around often ya know.... ;)
There's this REALLY good roasted duck, oil chicken (a direct translation I suppose), and various roasted meats served in a restaurant in Tasek, Ipoh. More often than not, the place would be swarmed by locals and tourists alike, for the years of legacy (walk in and you'll notice the sublime and ancient ambience).
To wash off all the grease, oil, and guilt (hehe) you can opt for their 'leung sui' or herbal drinks. The 'Yeung Sam Sou' was particularly bitter on the day we went. So much that Mr Z could not finish his without squirming in his seat.
Other than satisfying your carnivorous cravings, there are various other side dishes, mostly vegetables and such, to accompany your mains. Still remember they serve a mean "Mui Choy" (preserved vegetables?) with Pork, costing RM10 per bowl, but was darn good. Very thick and dark sauces, intimidating yet pleasantly delectable. But on certain days only I think ...
The usual chilli sauce and 'hoi sin' sauce for the duck

The duck's skin was crispy, the layer of fat was mostly roasted away. The meat was tender, but this time around rather gamey and strong in flavour. The batter-fried pork has always been a staple of mine; something which can't be easily found in other similar restaurants. Coated with batter, marinated with 'Nam Yue' (translation?), it can be a light snack (OK, as light as I'd portrayed them to be) on its own.
Not exactly cheap, as the platter of meat was about RM18, the greens about RM5, and drinks RM2. Still reasonable, but a simple lunch here may cost RM10 per pax.

Wow fellow Perakian eh? ;) I didn't know Ipoh is loaded with so many places of good food! Thanks for the highlights, will have something new to look forward to when I go back next time. ;)
Tasek is the least interesting place I would scour for food. No idea what they have there.
this place is famous of the "siew mei".....can't resist the crispy duck....
Nostalgic stuff for me! It's been almost 25 years since I ate there. I remember the duck's crisp skin.
Roasted duck - my all time favourite! Fragrant and crispy duck skin, ah, just can resist it.

Oh my... that roasted duck is really mouth watering!! *slurps*
Oh yes, the deep fried pork speaks to my Friday devil-may-care stance very well. Bring them on! Where can I find them in KL?
Since v r on ducky, any recommendation for a good Peking Duck in Ipoh? A friend over there claimed never had one before.
groan.. now I cant duck from having duck rice this weekend! ;p
Ooooh HK siu Ngap... love it! Even though the duck they use frozen duck (meaning the duck is less gamey and tender than it could be). I can eat half a duck to myself with rice... or a whole duck without rice :) And their siu yuk too :D
I used to dine frequently at this restaurant when I was young. Your post reminded me that it's been very long since the last time I dined there. I can't even recall my last time there.
You piece of roasted duck make me drool!

If I could recal there are 2 similar Duck specialist eatery near to one another.
Probably will go over for lunch one of this day.
I wasnt keen on Duck but I remember only like eating at this shop only. never also like Duck noodle for accept the one that operate along Jln Lumut, which taste much better then the one serve at Punchun, Bidor.
yes, Hulk. there's another shop in the same row, further down. but some frens complained the food there's horrible though.
there's a duck noodle better than Pun Chun? i MUST try liao. u rmbr the place specifically?
Yup..u can ask the locals. The road is between Sri manjung to Lumut on the left at a small eatery hut. Be warned..it could be tad expensive say RM5-RM6 per bowl. Its after the junction to Teluk Batik., go straight ahead towards Lumut & is just about 1KM from theh junction.
BTW, its only available from late evening onwards. Its kon-low mee is nice too. Its serve fishball, fishcake as well etc.
The owner is a cantonese. My bro in law from KL luv it very very much.
