Restoran Makanan Laut Yam Yam, Ipoh

Some photos from old stash today. This was a shop selling tauge chicken sometime ago, in Ipoh Garden South. Not sure since when, but converted to a 'dai chow' seafood restaurant, and seemingly crowded on most nights.
We were early, and managed to get a table without hassle. My throat was still battered from over-indulging in Johor and KL, therefore Mum ordered mostly bland dishes. But not to say they were not good, oh no, these were FAR from low quality dishes.
Their recommendation of signature chicken cooked with chestnut came with lots of chestnuts, herbs, red dates, and mushrooms. The meat was cooked to perfection, falling off the bones without much poking, and absorbed the aromatic herbal and fragrant chinese wine gravy used to braise the chicken.

The garoupa fish slices stir-fried with ginger and spring onions came in smaller portion, and the serving of fish slices were scarce, but sufficient to feed the 3 of us. Tastewise? OK, but not outstanding.

Last but not least, the sweet potato leaves (fan shu miu) cooked with fermented beancurd (foo yee) was a saving grace, providing much flavour, and of course, fibre for the overall meal. We ended up pretty satisfied with the dishes, and the total damage was RM40 including drinks and rice for three. Quite reasonable.

Bear in mind that they serve a whole LOT more different variety of dishes, leaning towards the seafood section (this IS a seafood restaurant after all), and we vowed to return for more.

Location : 9, Lebuh Raya, Ipoh Garden South, 31400 Ipoh. Tel : 012-5651510.

*The address above was copied from the bill, however I suspect the road's name maybe wrong, but this is a few shops away from Thum's Western Food (Restoran New Weng Fatt), yet again proving the abundant of good eateries undiscovered in Ipoh Garden South. =)
